Illuminated Traces of Ligeia
'The Illuminated Traces of Ligeia' is a chamber opera for 25 participants: 4 singers (soprano, mezzo soprano, tenor & bass singer), ensemble (flute, clarinet, percussion, accordion, zither, piano, violin & cello), choir (SSSAAATTBB), dancer & electronics.
The chamber opera is in 3 parts. The first part is based on a short novel called ’The trail of your blood in the snow' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The second part is based on the short story ’Ligeia’ by Edgar Allan Poe. The third and last story is based on the short novel called ’The light is like water’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The libretto is written by Ylva Lund Bergner. Eleven small poems by Nordic poets (Maria Wine, Pentti Saarikoski, Harry Martinson, Stig Dagerman, Inger Christensen & Göran Sonnevi) are added to the libretto.
The main theme in the opera is to accept the inevitable; to see that the end of something can be the beginning of something else. Even though it suits the genre of chamber operas, it is called ’a visual audiodrama’ in the score.
